THE BEAUTY OILS

In the ancient scriptures, from the papyrus scrolls to the bible, you can read about natural oils being used for personal care and for religious ceremonies. In Imperial Rome there was a street called the “via degli unguentari” (the unguentary street), where essential oils were mixed with a special light and odourless olive oil. The Olympic athletes of ancient Greece competed naked, covered with different oils on every part of their bodies, so as to obtain maximum physical efficacy.
We still have precious recipes from ancient times and from ethnic cultures where oils and butters were used to protect and take care of the skin and the hair: a real beauty therapy, an anticipation of the modern functional cosmetics that re-balance altered skin physiology, fights the effects of ageing and reduces damage.
Along side the well know oils (almond, olive, sunflower and the familiar mais, avocado and wheat germ) we have recently seen the arrival of new oils: macadamia, babassu, cotton, rise and peach seed..
But these are not just exotic names, they are rich in active ingredients typical of each botanical species. For example, in rise oil we can find elements that protect against photo ageing, such as gama orizanol, ferulic acid and fitic acid. In many other oils great quantities of active ingredients have been found: lipophilic vitamins and provitamins (A and E) and EFA (essential fatty acids), which are fundamental for our health and which we are not capable of sy but need to assure ourselves a particularly abundant external font through natural oils. Amongst these we find gama linolenic acid that protects, heals, regulates sebum secretion, reduces skin wrinkles and improves it’s appearance.
Indispensable in all functional cosmetics, oils are present in emulsions, oil systems and lipogels, but also (preferably in a hydrosoluble form), in hydrophilic systems (tonics, deodorants, moisturizing gels, and toiletries) to assure some emolliency, a carrier effect and good skin compatibility.
From the olive and from the Mediteranean grape, the argan from Marocco and the seeds of plants from far away such as macadamia, the use of natural oils offers all skin types, even the most sensitive and senescent, safe and delicate products that meet every need of beauty and well being.
